If you wanted a legal two-stroke route, now is your chance! 2oldtomx. I recently plated a 2006 KDX200 here in Colorado. I don`t know how close your DMV or county office is, but I went there first and asked about the regulations for converting an off-road motorcycle to the road (I don`t even know if VA offers that possibility). My district office was very helpful and checked the process, providing all the forms I needed, contact information to have it inspected and special legal language included on the purchase contract if there is no certificate of origin from the manufacturer or if it has not been notarized. The bike has a KX suspension to handle MX and off-road tracks. I have no experience with dual sports or the legalization of bicycles, so any advice would be welcome. I don`t want to do long road hikes, I just have to go from one trail to another a few kilometers from each other, without any problem with the law. Can someone explain the procedure to achieve this? Even if I make my bike street legal, is it okay to drive it into the city (a few miles away) since it`s a 2beat? Any information is greatly appreciated. I don`t know where you are in Virginia, but I lived in DC for a few years and had an 85 RZ350 two-stroke road bike. I couldn`t stamp it because DC has extensive vehicle inspections. He would have passed all the tests except the emissions. I had friends in Arlington and I`m pretty sure they had similar inspections. After my Illinois license plate expired, it was impossible to dress him there. That was in `98, so maybe things changed. Good luck. Search for dirtlegal.

To make your decision easier, here`s my extra cost for the plate here in Colorado: Check the regional chapter. Could find someone from VA out there who knows. Tusk makes beautiful kits, cheaper than anything I`ve seen, 210.00 or less, depending on the model. Available from rockymountainatv.com After bringing the KDX into compliance with the above requirements, I made an appointment at the Colorado State Patrol Office to have it inspected. The inspector was just for me, he checked the VIN, engine ID and DOT tires and didn`t even ask me to start it to make sure the lights/horn worked. He did the proper paperwork and then I went back to DMV/County Clerk to get plates. It turns out it`s a multi-step process, but at least in Colorado, if you`re determined (and don`t mind spending money), you can dish it.
